In 2019 the Hungarian government will allocate HUF 1.89 billion to support ongoing and new projects of ethnic Hungarians in Vojvodina, northern Serbia. Árpád János Potápi, the state secretary for policies for Hungarians abroad, said the region will receive HUF 325m in 2020 and HUF 290m in 2021. He said that Vojvodina Hungarians have made great strides over the past 20 years, contributing to a reconciliation between Serbia and Hungary. István Pásztor, head of the Association of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ) said the Hungarian government’s support meant that for the first time in the past century, it was an advantage to be Hungarian in Serbia.
