Builders walk off the D11 construction job

30 January 2019

Construction work on an extension to the D11 motorway near Hradec Králové looks likely to be delayed after the consortium that’s supposed to do the work pulled out of the contract. Led by Eurovia CS, the consortium said that the Czech Highway Authority (RSD) had not handed over the site in the agreed manner and asked for more money. The contract is worth CZK 2.59bn. Prime minister Andrej Babiš attended a ceremony marking the beginning of work on the 15 kilometer stretch of road last October. It’s another blow to the prestige of Transport Minister Dan Ťok, who has faced criticism over his inability to keep the reconstruction of sections of the D1 motorway between Prague and Brno running on time. Opposition parties are calling on the minister to be fired.
