Over the weekend, Bulgarian police discovered and close down an illegal cigarette factory in Lukovit, in northern Bulgaria. In a coordinated raid conducted by the Interior Ministry, the Customs Agency, and the Chief Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, investigators found production and storage facilities, equipment, cigarette boxes, and around 13 tons of tobacco. Several arrests were made.
“The €1.53m worth of cigarettes that were to be produced would have resulted in a €1.28m loss in excise duties to the state treasury,” said Deputy Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov.
