Transhipment in the port of Rotterdam has fallen by more than 9 percent in the past six months, with deliveries of coal, ores and oil products hit the hardest. With millions of people working home, demand for fuel fell steeply while steel mills and coal-fired power plants cut production. Biomass and liquefied gas were handled slightly more in the port. At the beginning of the corona crisis, President of the Port of Rotterdam, Allard Castelein, said he feared business would shrink by as much as 20 percent. Now, he says trade is recovering its footing, though he admits a return to the old numbers will take a long time to achieve.
