The opening of Prague’s Blanka tunnel, scheduled for April, will be delayed by eight months so that the infrastructure cabling can be replaced, according to Karel Samec, the spokesman of the supplier, ČKD Praha DIZ. Complicating matters, it’s not clear yet when repair work will start or who will foot the bill. The city is considering filing a lawsuit, as it refuses to pay for the repair, and blames ČKD DIZ for installing the wrong cables, which are not water resistant. The tunnel runs under the Vltava River. The repair is expected to cost up to CZK 1bn. The total cost of the tunnel, a key part of Prague ring road, is currently at CZK 37bn.
