Prague is considering building a cableway that would connect Bohnice in Prague 8 to Podbaba across the Vltava River in Prague 6. The city has ordered a study on the project and Deputy Mayor Petr Dolínek says that several cableways could be built in Prague in the future. A private investor is reportedly planning another cableway that would connect the Intercontinental Hotel to the city’s Letná neighborhood across the river, according to the server aktualne.cz. The city-owned company Ropid, which launched the tender for the study says that a cableway would have twice the capacity of a tramline, which is also being considered for the Podbaba-Bohnice connection. A cableway could serve 4,000 passengers per hour. Petr Šlegr of Cedop, which is working on feasibility study with Egis, says the cableway would be able to travel at a speed of 25 km per hour and will not get stuck in traffic jams. It is also cheaper to build and maintain than trams.
