The Canaveral Port Authority and cargo terminal operator GT USA are considering the purchase of two new cargo cranes that would increase its cargo capacity in the future. In a 4-1 vote, Port Authority approved a deal to split the$4.7 million cost of the two cranes with GT USA. The port has been searching for ways to expand cargo operations by transporting and receiving more cargo shipments via water and rail. GT USA claims the two cranes the port currently has don’t give it the capacity for serious growth. Opponents of the deal say new deal with cargo shippers should be in place before any money is spent.
