The pace of car sales in the Czech Republic picked up through the first half of December by between 17 and 18 percent. The server auto.cz claims the reason is that consumers are making up for time lost during the lockdown, when car dealerships were forced to close. While consumers could potentially order cars online, few are willing to do so without being able to take them for test drives first and comparing different makes and models. Over the first 10 days of December, 10,000 new cars were registered and the expectation is that the number could exceed 22,000 by month’s end. That would be 4,500 more than in November and a total of 205,000 for the year, a drop of 18 percent compared to 2019. The most often sold brand in the Czech Republic is Skoda, followed by Volkswagen and Hyundai.
