Europe’s biggest retailer Carrefour hasn’t lost faith in the Spanish market, and is planning to hire 3,000 people to work in its newly-opened units. The plan is to expand the number of the stores the company operates in Spain to 180, including both Carrefour Market and Carrefour Express chains. Around 40,000 employees currently work for the French retailer across the country, that is third largest export market, following France and Brazil. The company says the new hirings are a response for Carrefour’s Q1 2012 weak results which show its sales rose to just €22.5bn, giving an increase of 1.5 percent in the period. The results have been hurt by the falling sales in Southern Europe, mainly in Italy, Greece and in Spain.
