CBRE to sell shuttered GM plant in Janesville

18 February 2016

General Motors has tapped CBRE Group to sell its former manufacturing plant in Janesville, Wisconsin. Originally built in 1919 on a 250 acre site, it was the oldest operating General Motors plant until being shut down in 2009. The fully equipped rail-served manufacturing facility consists of the 3.8 million square foot main plant and six other buildings. Most of the buildings on the property were constructed after 1970. “We have a deep understanding of the magnitude of this property and its importance to the Janesville community,” said Tom Simon, who is a founding member of the CBRE Special Properties Group that specializes in major industrial facilities outside of metropolitan areas. “Accordingly, General Motors and CBRE are committed to finding a buyer as quickly as possible.” A price for the facility has yet to be determined.
