Reconstruction of the Jugoexport building in Belgrade Republic square is due to begin in a matter of days. This 5,500 sqm building was acquired at the beginning of 2017 by Petar Matijevic, owner of Matijevic meat industry, for €7.3m. Built in 1923, the building is under state protection as a cultural monument. The new owner plans to open a four-star hotel to be called Center Belgrade, however this will take an investment that’s roughly equal to the purchase price. Center Belgrade will offer 68 rooms, employing 30 people and should be open by the end of 2017. Petar Matijevic owns three hotels in Zrenjanin and Hotel Center in Novi Sad.
