The volume of mortgages granted by Česká spořitelna rocketed by 75 percent y-o-y in 2012. In the first quarter, the bank provided more than 5,600 new mortgages – an increase of 59 percent — with total volume reaching CZK 9.8bn. Continued low interest rates may have contributed to their popularity. As of mid-March 2012, Česká Spořitelna reduced its five-year fixed mortgage rates to 3.19 percent and four-year fixed rates to as low as 3.29 percent. Variable-rate mortgages start at 2.49 percent.
