Ceske Budejovice bypass delayed until 2024

8 September 2020

The Czech Highway Authority (RSD) has admitted new delays in completing the ring road around Ceske Budejovice, a 7.2 kilometer section of the D3 motorway. Spokeswoman Jan Studecka said that while completion had already been pushed back a year to 2023, newly discovered problems with the Pohurka tunnel meant that the road wouldn’t be available until 2024. Mlada front Dnes writes that a new construction solution will have to be used in order to deal with problems connected with underground water. New project documentation is being completed that will guide the remainder of the work that’s needed. The complication is expected to add CZK 100 million to the CZK 5.28 billion project. The second portion of the ring road, a 12.5 kilometer section between Hodejovice and Trebonin, should cost a total of CZK 7 billion. In all, just 70 kilometers of the planned 170 kilometer motorway connecting Prague, Ceske Budejovice and the Austrian border has been completed.
