The town of České Budějovice appears to have put to rest plans to build a new concert hall in the “Čtyří Dvory”. Instead, according to a regional issue of Mladá fronta Dnes, the city will build an aquapark along with new flats targeting young families. The decision will disappoint fans of modern architecture who had hoped the planned new concert hall, intended to resemble a manta ray, would soon grace the city. But documentation for the water attraction is now being prepared in its place. “Our goal is use an urban plan study to change things that were connected with the “Manta ray” hall,” said deputy mayor Petr Podhola. “The aim of the construction is a water world. We’re convinced the city needs it.” It’s unclear, however, how the water park will be paid for as city officials admit the era of generous subsidies is over. Fears over whether the concert hall would be economically viable eventually undercut political support for the idea among city leaders.
