The wind farm operated in Romania by Czech energy group CEZ is currently the largest in Europe, with a record capacity of 540 MW, after a new turbine came on-line last week, said CEZ CEO Daniel Benes. In 2008 CEZ acquired the project for the construction of the Fantanele-Cogealac wind farm, in Dobrogea, near the Black Sea, through a total investment estimated at €1.1bn.
The farm uses 2.5 MW turbines manufactured by General Electric. All 240 turbines should be installed by the end of the year, taking the potential output of the wind farm to a total 600 MW.
