It turns out that Prague city planners haven’t given up on their vision of adding a fourth metro line, an investment that looked to have been put on ice in order to relieve a strained budget. Originally, the new line was supposed to connect Písnice on the southern edge of Prague 4 with the center of the city.
The latest proposal would have the new line end at Pankrac, which would at least allow commuters to change to the C-line, and which would save an estimated CZK 10bn. A final decision has not yet been taken on the new proposal, but public discussion over the environmental influence of the project will start tomorrow at city hall. The new plan, put forward by the design company Metroprojekt, calls for existing trains to be used, rather than the new trains originally proposed which would operate without drivers.
