A Chinese company has entered into a strategic partnership with Rudeks to open a factory near Boljevac, eastern Serbia, that will produce industrial explosives. The factory will be located on the grounds of a former military complex. The 7ha site has underground hangars for ammunition storage. The name of the Chinese company has not yet been made public. However, Nebojsa Marjanovic, the mayor of Boljevac, has said the company operates factories around the world and has hundreds of thousands of employees. The biggest consumer of industrial explosives in Serbia is the former Bor Mining and Smelter Basin, which is now controlled by the Chinese company ZiJin. The distance between Boljevac and Bor is just 35 km.
