While the number of Chinese investors active in Slovakia has dropped, investment volumes continue to grow. In 2011, Chinese investors poured capital into 1,668 companies. The number has dropped to 1,232 since then, according to the data compiled by the consultancy Bisnode. Annual investment volumes, however, increased by €2m over the past five years, indicating that the Slovak market is attracting big investors. Bisnode Slovakia consultant Milan Seliak says Chinese investors finance companies by investing into bonds, loans and investment funds. Stats from the Slovak central bank indicate, however, that Chinese investments make up a mere 1 percent (€47.061m) of the total foreign investment volume in Slovakia.
