Chinese investors are interested in building a new industrial zone near Plovdiv, outside the Trakia Economic Zone. However, a final agreement was not reached following recent metings between Plovdiv’s Deputy Mayor Rozalin Petkov, the businessman Plamen Panchev, (responsible for the Trakia Economic Zone project, and Valentina Aleksandrova (an adviser to the minister of economy Minister’s advisers) and Chanqing Zhang, who represents the Bulgarian-Chinese Association for Business Development. Business representatives from Shenzhen were also present at the meetings.
The goal is to strengthen economic ties between China and European businesses by rebuilding what local media are calling the New Silk Road.
