Chrudim will gradually increase rents in municipal apartments by 20 percent. Currently, tenants pay CZK 62.34 per square metre per month, the deputy mayor Zdeněk Kolář (ANO) told reporters today.
From 1 July, the rent will increase for recurring fixed-term contracts. It will increase for permanent leases from 1 October. Kolář said the city cannot increase rents every year in response to inflation, for example. The rent increase will affect 347 apartments.
The last rent increase in Chrudim was in 2021, when the price rose 20 percent from CZK 51.95 per square metre per month to CZK 62.34. The increase affected all city flats except those for which the city received subsidies. Chrudim owns about 460 flats, including those in homes for the elderly or with nursing services.
Several years ago, the town management came up with the idea of a new concept for the management of town flats. They should be divided into three categories, which would be intended for different social groups of tenants and would differ in the amount of rent. At present, the rent in public housing is the same everywhere. However, according to Mayor František Pilný (ANO), it has proved problematic to implement the change technically and find a socially viable option.
Since January this year, the rents in municipal flats in Česká Třebová have increased. For flats in basic quality, it has risen from CZK 62 per square metre per month to CZK 74 per square metre per month, and for flats in reduced quality from CZK 54 to CZK 64 per square metre per month. The increase does not apply to basement spaces in the apartment building called Čtverec. Discounts for flats on the fifth floor without a lift or with a sloping ceiling remained in force. The exception is the building number 2100 in Masarykova Street, which is a nursing home, where the rent has been increased in the same way, but only from 1 February. The change in rents affected 340 households in Česká Třebová.
