Civic group blocks demolition of two Bucharest historic buildings

25 June 2012

The Bucharest Court of Appeals has upheld an initiative by the “Save Bucharest” organization by canceling, permanently, the demolition permits for two historic buildings on Kiseleff Boulevard.

Their owner, the lawyer Lucia Chereches, wanted to built a real estate complex on the site. She had previously forced the District 1 mayor to issue demolition permits for the two buildings using a court order.

The two houses were built between 1920 and 1927 and are on land that’s a small copy of the gardens of Versailles.
