The former main post office building in the German town of Wuppertal is one of the biggest buildings in the city, but it’s been empty for years. The post office moved out of the building in stages, after which, it was acquired by the Clees Group. It had planned to install a factory outlet center in the 43,000 sqm building, that failed to materialize. The company is now looking for ways of bringing a variety of functions to it, including leisure, fitness, gastronomy and craft businesses. City officials are open to the company’s plans for repurposing the building and are positive about Clees Grup’s plans to restore the façade. The one thing the city appears anxious to avoid is to have the building used primarily for retail so that it doesn’t become competition for shops in the city center.
