Coalition battles corruption head-on

As part of a wider government effort to root out corruption, the center-right governing coalition pushed through a new law on public contracts which should take effect as of April 1st. It’s thought there’s now a rush at the local level to get a flurry of public orders pushed through to avoid the new restrictions. The new law will prevent tenders with just one company participating in it, and local officials should not be able to withhold important information about the contract and about the final cost of the contract on the pretext of a right to secrecy by private companies. Finally, the law will make it more difficult to . Last but not least the new law will abolish anonymous bearer shares, a way to legally mask the true ownership of the companies.
