The first commercial U.S. flight to Cuba in more than 50 years was made by JetBlue Airways Wednesday. Departing from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport the flight landed in Santa Clara with 150 passengers on board. The Cuban government gave the New York-based carrier its final approval for the flight earlier this month. The flight reflects improved relations between the U.S. and Cuba, initiated by President Obama’s efforts to lift the U.S. embargo on the country in late 2014. American Airlines will be the second U.S. airline to land in Cuba, with a flight departing from Miami International Airport on Sept. 7. The new arrangement allows U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba under a variety of categories, including family visits, humanitarian work, journalism, education and for religious activities.
