Communication companies in Poland could start charging the state for providing confidential information during police investigations. The practice is a controversial topic that has been heavily debated. The companies argue they incur considerable costs in order to provide such services to the government, and they are not properly reimbursed.
“In 2011, the companies spent a total of PLN 74m to handle all requests from the government for personal information about their subscribers,” said Stefan Kamiński from the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Electronics and Telecommunications. “Our services must have a price,” Kamiński added.
