A conflict of interest scandal has arisen surrounding Pál Kovács, the newly appointed Minister of State for Climate Change and Energy. In addition to his ministerial role, Pál Kovács is also the president of the board of directors of the Hungarian Hydrocarbon Stockpiling Association (MSZKSZ). MSZKSZ is an independent non-profit company responsible for covering Hungary’s full stockholding. It owns Hungary’s compulsory oil stocks and is financed by the oil product importers in Hungary. Under Hungarian law, politicians must declare potential conflicts of interest and resign from those positions within 30 days of assuming office.
