Construction work began yesterday on the expansion and reconstruction of the D terminal at Tallinn port. The terminal, which services passengers between Tallinn-Helsinki and Tallinn-Stockholm was designed to service 2.5 million passengers per year, but now services more than 6 million. Peeter Nogu, chief infrastructure development officer at Tallinna Sadam said the investment was crucial. “The ships have become larger and schedules tighter, shippers have made large investments and the port must keep up with these developments.” The commencement of construction was made possible by the signing of a €17 million contract in mid-June between Nordecon AS and the state-owned AS Tallinna Sadam. The project will see the 3 storey terminal building double in space to over 16,000 sqm. Construction is set for completion by the summer of 2020.
