Construction work has started on the new Melia Lisboa, the first 5-star unit managed by the Spanish chain in Portugal. The new hotel will be located at the intersection of Avenida António Augusto Aguiar and Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, next to Marques de Pombal. The hotel will offer 240 rooms, a restaurant, a rooftop bar-lounge, convention rooms and a congress center for 550 people.
Project and construction management is being handled by Engexpor, which has worked on the project since the initial study and concept phase. The contract was awarded by Discovery Portugal Real Estate Fund, assisted by Explorer Investments, which is developing the hotel in partnership with Melia Hotels International. Completion is scheduled for the second half of 2022.
