Tesla has gotten the go-ahead to begin construction of its new factory outside Berlin ahead of schedule. It’s a somewhat surprising development, since the planned Gigafactory in Brandenburg hasn’t seen its EIA approved yet. But the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection (MLUK) in Potsdam has confirmed that earthworks, structural work and the construction of private traffic areas would be allowed to begin. It’s just as well for the brainchild of Tesla founder Elon Musk, given that the factory is scheduled to begin construction within a year. It should have a capacity of 500,000 cars per year, with up to 8,000 people to be employed there. Just 3,000 will be hired in the initial roll-out of production.
