Construction of a new district in Tábor could begin in 2026. It will be built on the site of the former barracks and will be called Dvorce. The city expects that the district will have five hundred flats for 1,700 inhabitants. The town hall is therefore starting negotiations with potential investors and developers, said Štěpán Pavlík (Tábor 2020), the Mayor of Tábor
“These are plots of land that belong to the city, and in our opinion the area has great potential. We will see if the construction of apartments would be covered by one investor or more,” Pavlík said. The town hall, he said, expects that part of the district would be used for rental housing in city apartments. “We are also considering a similar model, which was recently introduced by České Budějovice,” the Mayor said.
In České Budějovice, the city is also planning to build apartments in the former barracks in Čtyře Dvory. The city has obtained a loan for the project on favourable interest terms and part of the costs should be covered by state support. The city intends to repay the loan from the proceeds of the flats’ rents.
In addition to residential buildings, the town hall is also considering a home for clients with Alzheimer’s disease in the upcoming Dvorce district of Tabor. The city proposes that the building be built by a private investor. The capacity of the special care home would be 110 to 140 beds. Camp has been preparing a new residential neighborhood project for several years. Originally, a private investor planned to build apartments there, but eight years ago the investor backed out of the plan. The town hall then drew up a project for the construction of a residential area. It will cover an area of nine hectares.
According to the city administration, the new district is to help stop the decline in the population of Tábor. In the early 1990s, nearly 38,000 people lived in the town. Now it is about 5,000 fewer, as many residents are looking for housing in nearby villages and satellite towns. The Dvorce district will include shops and services, and a kindergarten is planned. The cost of building the district is estimated at billions of crowns.
