Slovakia’s construction output fell by 4 percent y-o-y in August to €437.7m, according to data from the Slovak Statistical Office. The decrease, however, was cushioned by a 10.5-percent increase in cross-border construction orders. While construction of commercial buildings remained flat, it still led the whole sector. Residential construction fell the most, but the lack of new constructions was at least partly compensated for by repairs in this sector. Infrastructure was down 3 percent y-o-y.The sector of commercial buildings was the most active in Bratislava, with construction underway on Bory Mall and the Pharos shopping center, as well as Danubiana. Metrostav Slovakia was busy working on an industrial warehouse for Slovaktual in Pravenec and a new shopping center in Veľký Krtíš. The company is also constructing a swimming pool in Bratislava’s Petržalka district, as well as a new research center for Slovak Science Academy in Košice and a sports and recreational area in Šamorín for Istrokapitál. Metrostav was the only construction company whose output rose during the first eight month of 2014. Metrostav’s output was up by 13 percent, hitting €452m.
