Construction output has dropped in July in Slovakia to €415m, down by 5.7 percent y-o-y, according to data published by the Slovak Statistical Office. Although July was the sector’s best month of the year, residential building fell 3.6 percent y-o-y. Repairs and maintenance of residential buildings was up by 7.5 percent y-o.-y. The volume of construction works completed jumped 20 percent to €25m, however, construction output in the first seven months of 2014 fell 2.7 percent to €2.3bn. Signs of improvement came from smaller businesses (up to 20 employees) as they reported that they were hiring new staff. The larger companies (250 to 499 employees) continue to shed jobs.
