Lee County construction permits jumped 84% to almost $1bn last year, boosted by a surge in major commercial projects. The total construction value for residential and commercial permits increased from just $510m in 2013 to $943m for 2014. The increase was driven by projects such as the new $30m Hertz Global Holdings world headquarters, the $19m renovation of CenturyLink Sports Complex and a new $13m Wal-Mart scheme in Estero.
