Slovak construction prices may increase by 7% in 2015

1 April 2015

Construction volume on the Slovak market reached €220m in January, slightly higher than the same period last year. The results were boosted by infrastructure construction, which reached €52.5m, its highest January volume since 2009. Residential construction, however, dropped by 2 percent to €55m. Confidence in the sector has been high since August 2014, according to data from the Statistical Office SR.

A CEEC Research poll of hundreds of Slovak construction companies indicates, however, that the sector will likely only see slight growth this year, thanks to low prices and demand. Prices have fallen by 16 percent over the last six years, according to the poll; 80 percent of the sector’s largest construction companies have lowered their prices, while only four in 10 small and medium-sized companies lowered theirs. This year, 25 percent of those companies polled plan to start increasing their prices by 7 percent on average.
