Construction research center to be built in Brno

17 December 2012

A new scientific research center is underway in Brno. Construction on the CZK 800m project, to be called Centrum AdMaS (Advanced Materials, Structures and Technologies), started last week. The facility, located next to Brno University of Technology’s Faculty of Construction, should be completed in June 2014.
Research will focus on advanced materials, structures and technologies for the construction sector, as well as transport systems and infrastructure. The project is getting CZK 818m in EU funding. One of the pavilions in the area will serve as a pilot project of a building with zero energy consumption. ”The principle of these buildings is not that they do not need any energy, but that the energy they use comes from renewable sources,” Jiří Hirš, the dean of the university’s Faculty of Construction, told the weekly Euro.
