Court blocks plans to extend D52 motorway to Austria

17 July 2020

In the latest blow to hopes of making progress on the construction of a motorway to Vienna, a regional court in Brno cancelled a decision by the Ministry of Environment that would allow the Czech Highway Authority to continue with preparations to complete the D52 motorway. There’s just 23 kilometers now left between Pohorelice and the Austrian border, but the court found in favor of some civic initiatives who oppose the proposed route. Austria has nearly completed its portion of the road. The planning process has dragged on for more than a decade and with the route for the Mikulov bypass also being attacked in court, it’s conceivable that it could take another decade before the route is completed.
