A regional court has cancelled part of a planned transport infrastructure system for the city of Ústí nad Labem. Some of the tunnels and bridges would have been located on private properties with homes.
In December 2011, Ústí nad Labem deputies approved the master plan costing an extraordinary CZK 34m, which included the transport system with bridges and tunnels. The plan has long been criticized for being over-designed and too costly. The court did not cancel the whole tunnel system. However, if one-third of the system is axed, it will not be operational, argues David Daduč, a member of Stop Tunnels, a local civic initiative. Pavel Dlouhý, the councilor in charge of city planning, told the server iDnes.cz that city deputies had already promised to take the tunnel system out of the master plan in 2011. The court decision, however, will now enforce change.
