Court greenlights expansion of second Prague airport

17 December 2015

Penta received the positive EIA assessment it needs to expand the Prague Vodochody airport into the Czech capital’s second international destination. The Environmental Ministry issued a positive EIA for the project two years ago, only to revoke it following protests from mayors and inhabitants of municipalities in the area. The company Letiště Vodochody, part of the Penta group, appealed the decision in court in a case that eventually reached the country’s Supreme Court. It has upheld Penta’s claim and reinstated the EIA, meaning that Penta can proceed with the planning process for the project. Still, work on the project won’t be able to begin until 2017 at the earliest, and Letiště Vodochody’s director Martin Kačur considers even this to be an optimistic goal. The airport would focus on low-fare airlines and private flights.
