Planning procedures for the construction of a new runway at Prague’s international airport will have to cease following a ruling by the country’s highest court. The decision is a victory for Prague districts of Nebusice and Suchdol, which have been fighting against the construction of a second parallel runway for years. They claim the increased noise and pollution that would result from the airport’s increased capacity would be unacceptably high. The court didn’t actually agree with these complaints, but found that there is insufficient documentation on the cumulative impact the new runway would have. Construction was expected to begin in 2025 in order to allow for it to be operational by 2028. Letiste Praha said it would file a complaint over the new ruling and that the second runway remains an essential part of its plans for development.
