Croatia’s construction sector grew 10.6 percent in the second quarter of 2019 compared to the same period last year, while the value of new orders rose a more modest 3.7 percent, according data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The total value of construction work was €902.2m, of which €603.8m related to work performed by general contractors themselves and €298.5m was done by subcontractors. Sector-wise, 47.2 percent of the work was done on buildings while 52.8 percent was on other types of structures. New orders over the period were valued at €686.2m, of which €322.8m was for the construction of buildings, while the remainder (€360.6m) went to other structures, such as roads, railway lines, pipelines, dams, and sports grounds.
