Croatian restaurants demand right to serve indoors

5 May 2020

Croatian authorities are putting epidemic measures into place this week that will allow the country’s tourist season to open, at least in part, on June 1. Hotels and caterers will be discussing the measures during video meetings with the Ministry of Tourism and the National Civil Protection Headquarters.

However, restaurants, bars and cafes warn that if the conditions that are set are too strict, they won’t open on May 11 even though under the law they’d be permitted to do so. They claim that if the spaces between tables are too large and require the use of Plexiglas partitions they would only succeed in accumulating losses. They are also unable to make a return if they’re only able to open outside on patios and terraces and are demanding to be able to serve customers inside, as is being done in Austria.
