The number of people covered by Croatia’s Pension Institute (HZMO) fell by more than 12,000 in March compared to February, a signal that company layoffs are already underway. The HZMO wrote that Croatian employers haven’t been hiring seasonal workers to fill jobs in the tourism and manufacturing sectors as is usual at this time of year. The organization’s data showed a 0.8 percent drop in policy holders, with the biggest decline in the tourism and hotel sectors. Manufacturing numbers fell 0.3 percent.
