Czech authorities have finally frozen the shares of the Russian MP in ČKD Blansko

22 December 2022

The Financial Analysis Office (FAÚ) has finally frozen the shares of Russian MP Andrei Trifonov in ČKD Blansko Holding. The FAO decided to freeze the company in May. It was a preliminary measure then, but the current decision is final. The Russian MP’s property is subject to sanctions adopted by the EU against Russia for launching the invasion of Ukraine at the end of February.

The FAU initiated proceedings against the company, ČKD Blansko Holding, in May. “The administrative proceedings in question have been definitively closed with the conclusion that the shares issued by ČKD Blansko Holding are considered to be property subject to EU sanctions. In other words, the shares of ČKD remain frozen, this time not by a preliminary measure of the FAU, but also by a final measure,” CT quotes Lagronová as saying. The frozen assets cannot be disposed of by their owners.

CT recalls that Trifonov was put on the European sanctions list on 23 February for voting in favour of recognising the self-proclaimed republics in eastern Ukraine.

Trifonov controls the engineering firm through the Russian company Izhmash, which has been the sole shareholder of the engineering firm since 2010. From 2016 to 2021, he sat on the supervisory board of ČKD Blansko Holding. The Seznam Zprávy website reported in March that although he had stepped down from the board, the company remained under the control of his relatives through the Ťažmaš company.

The police are also investigating the case because of the possible circumvention of sanctions.

ČKD Blansko Holding operates in the hydropower and engineering sectors, supplying, among other things, components for hydropower plants.
