Czech car production slipped 3.8 percent in the first quarter of the year to 363,052, with the number of cars coming off the lines of Škoda Auto falling 3 percent to 231,280. TPCA in Kolin actually witnessed a 5 percent jump to 58,772 but the Hyundai factory in Nošovice fell 12 percent to 73,000. There was a spike, however, in the volume of trucks, busess and motorcycles. The numbers were collected by the Automobile Industry Association, whose president Bohdan Wojnar warned that the Czech Republic needed to keep up with the newest trends (including transition to electric cars and automonous steering) in order to ensure its place in the automobile world. He said that private and public institutions would have to cooperate to ensure the Czech automobile sector remains competitive, because the country’s economy depends on it.
