An increasing number of Czech construction companies are targeting Serbia after the government announced a number of infrastructure tenders. A consortium led by OHL ŽS recently signed a contract worth €55m to modernize a railway corridor connecting the cities of Niš and Dimitrovgrad in Serbia. A future phase of the project is expected to cost €65m. The Czech consortium has already secured financing for the construction. Additional tenders are underway for the construction of power stations and roads. Serbia is the last country in Europe where Czech construction companies have not yet been active. The annual trade volume between the Czech Republic and Serbia has reached CZK 18bn.
