Czech construction output down 11%

12 October 2016

Czech construction output fell 11 percent in the first eight months of 2016, a direct result of public orders dropping by one-third. Construction companies are predicting a 1-percent decrease for the whole year, despite continuing signs of an economic recovery. However, according to data compiled by CEEC Research, construction output is expected to grow by 3.1 percent in 2017. Public orders make up for approximately 40 percent of the sector’s revenue base. Public tenders launched between January and August, meanwhile, hit CZK 80.7bn, up by 25 percent y-o-y. The transport ministry plans to invest into the construction of 140 km of new motorways and 23.9 km of new roads next year, while the national motorway and road manager says it will launch tenders for 20 road projects worth CZK 64bn.
