Construction companies in the Czech Republic are predicting that the volume of public orders could realistically increase in 2018 – 19. This year construction production fell 9.3 percent over the first ten months of the year, mainly due to the lack of infrastructure projects, which dropped by 17 percent, according to the data compiled by CEEC Research. Pavel Pilát, general director in Metrostav, warns that the Czech construction sector has been in permanent recession since 2009. Tomáš Slavíček, head of Sudop, blames overly complicated rules regulating both public orders and project planning. Construction managers hope, however, that the sector will bottom out and they are predicting 2 percent growth for 2017 and 2018.
