Czech economy slows despite construction sector growth

13 January 2020

Czech economic growth slowed to 2.5 percent growth in the third quarter of 2019, a drop from Q2 results of 2.8 percent growth. The pace of growth from quarter to quarter slowed to 0.4 percent in Q3 from 0.6 percent in Q2, according to the Czech Statistics Office. ING’s chief economic Jakub Seidler warns that the economy could slow further to just 2 percent growth in 2020. Leading the way down was the country’s industrial sector, which contracted 5.7 percent in October, which was even worse than October’s 3 percent fall. However, the downturn in construction has stopped, at least for the time being. Output grew 3.1 percent in November, following a 1.7 percent drop in October.
