The Czech highway authority has changed rules in highway construction, which will cost the state budget CZK 40bn in 2012. An increasing number of law suits with general contractors because of the poor quality of the newly completed highways, such as the wavy D47 highway to Ostrava, have convinced the highway authority to demand a ten year guarantee period on the construction, up from the current five years. The durability of highways in the Czech Republic is around six years, while in Germany it is 15 years.
