Czech Industry Minister criticizes Brno’s Uber ban

24 April 2017

Brno joined a growing list of cities last week when it banned the alternative taxi service Uber from operating in its territories. A court in the Moravian capital issued the verdict, which the company has 15 days to appeal. Uber is regularly used in Prague, but shortly after the service began to be offered in Brno, a successful suit to issue an injunction against it was launched by Lido Taxi Radio, a local company. The Czech Industry Minister Jiri Havlicek has criticized the move, according to Seznam.cz, calling the shared economy a future driver of Europe’s economy. “We have to take a rational approach and not throw out the baby with the bath water,” he said. “Attempt to ban these services entirely, which have begun to show up, are a path in the wrong direction.”
